ROOTS MUSIC SONGWRITER FOLLOWS NATIONAL BREAKOUT ON “AMERICA’S GOT TALENT” WITH NEW LP OF ORIGINAL MATERIAL

Music Road Records has announced the addition of Jonah Smith to their roster, who will enter the studio next month to record a new full-length album for release later this year.

Smith, a well-respected songwriter and longtime favorite of roots music aficionados, broke out on a national level after a stunning vocal performance won over audiences on the most recent season of the NBC performance series “America’s Got Talent,” where he advanced to the semi-final round.

The huge stage productions and boisterous covers of pop songs like Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” that Smith became known for on television stand in stark contrast to his prior live shows, which were obviously more intimate affairs.

“I like to tell stories and talk with the audience, and I play a pretty eclectic array of songs – a little bit of rock and roll, Americana, blues, soul, and folk,” he says. “But on that big stage on national TV, I really got to take things to a new level – bigger, more energetic, and exciting. I had a lot of fun doing it, and I’m writing new songs with that in mind.”

Working with Music Road Records has given Smith the chance to bring those new live elements into the studio. “It’s the first time in ten years that I’ve had the support of a label. My goal is to make the absolute best record of my career,” he says. “I want to make something that I’m really proud of. Something that will stick with people and make them want to listen more than once.”

Music Road Records was established in 2007 by renowned songwriter Jimmy LaFave and Dallas businessman Kelcy Warren. Located in Austin, Texas, Music Road also owns and operates two Texas based recording facilities — Cedar Creek Recording in Austin and Cherokee Creek Recording in the Texas hill country.
